Etnographical Museum Valle di Muggio (Ticino, Switzerland) and Osservatorio Biellese Beni Culturali e Paesaggio (Biella, Italy) - the latter being a member of CivilScape - have recently been granted Interreg funds to an awareness-rising project, based on the Article 6 of the European Landscape Convention. Lidköping - 16.04.2013 | Representatives of the Swedish National Heritage Board, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the Biosfärområde Vänerskärgården med Kinnekulle, the Sveriges hembygdsförbund and CIVILSCAPE met for a preparatory meeting in Lidköping today. The region Västra Götaland is also a strong supporter of this idea and will be involved to the further activities. The goal of the European Landscape Convention (ELC) is a rich landscape where everyone can participate in the design. The Convention stresses that landscape, its protection, management and planning is a shared responsibility. Application of the Convention therefore requires cooperation between government agencies, NGOs and civil society to ensure that landscape diversity managed in a sustainable way. CivilScape’s network has recently welcomed a new member organisation in Sweden. Sverige Hembygdsförbund (Swedish Local Heritage Movement), established in 1916, is a sister organisation of the German Bund Heimat und Umwelt; nowadays they have 2.030 local groups all over Sweden, 10.000 protected buildings, 430.000 members; they organize activities for 90.000 school children every year and have around 3,7 million visitors. They work constantly for education and communication of landscape and cultural heritage issues through 500 publications and 1.400 study circles all over the country. | Learn more...

The Bundesrat has ratified today the European Landscape Convention (ELC) and informed afterwards the Council of Europe Treaty Office about this. The ELC will come into force in Switzerland on June 1st, 2013. This will end a long struggle about the ratification in Switzerland. Treaty is open for signature by the member states of the Council of Europe and for accession by the European Union and the European non-member states. | Learn more...

At the beginning of the seccond scientific & midterm Greennet conference, Arthur Spiegler and Brigitte Macaria from the CIVILSCAPE member ECOVAST Austria presented their posters of landscape projects and workshops they worked on in Austria and Slovenia. The event took place in the BOKU – University of Natural Ressources and Applied life Sciences in Vienna. CIVILSCAPE is happy to annouce that the Executive Board decided to welcome the Heimatbund Thüringen e.V. (Heritage Association of Thuringia) as a new regular member from Germany. To support a successful implementation of the European Grid Declaration, signed by a coalition of Europe’s 29 largest environmental NGOs and grid operators in 2011, the Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI) launches the European Grid Report. The report publishes over 80 selected practical experiences by different RGI members across Europe. Today at the 2nd European Grid Conference in Brussels, jointly organised by RGI and Smart Energy for Europe Platform (SEFEP), the report and the extended European Grid Declaration on Transparency and Public Participation were presented to European Commissioner for Energy Günther H. The European Commission today outlined new proposals to streamline legislation on environmental impact assessments. The proposals are intended to lighten administrative burdens and make it easier to assess the potential impacts of major projects, without weakening existing environmental safeguards. CIVILSCAPE has signed a petition opened by the major NGOs at the Rio +20 Conference in Rio. The petition was formulated as a reaction on the actual debates by the represented governments, resulting in a watered down resolution "The Future we want". This resolution is the main document drafted by the conference and to be signed by the participating states - it therefore constitutes the result of the Rio +20 Conference. | Learn more...

CIVILSCAPE welcome the decision of the Swiss National Council on June 1st 2012. However it was very scarce (89:86) for the European Landscape Convention! Iceland has decided to sign the European Landscape Convention end fo June 2012. Iceland will join by this the increasing number of counttries that have already signed the ELC. “Opportunities and risks for maritime and costal intangibles landscapes and environment” was discussed in the workshop promoted by CivilScape, European Maritime Heritage and University of Liverpool in the frame of the European Maritime Day 2012 (Gothenburg, Sweden 21-22 May 2012).
