After CIVILSCAPE was formally registered in April 2008, the registration of member organisations started. Most of them have already published their profile here. CIVILSCAPE has 11 member organisations in the selected country.


The Archaeological Spessart-Project was founded in 1998 as a regional iniative by a few archaeologists and since then has developed to an institute for landscape research, communication and management. The ASP is active in the Spessart region but also on European level with many projcets and activities.

Since its foundation in 1904 the Bund Heimat und Umwelt (BHU) advocates the cause of cultural landscapes and the people who form part of these landscapes. The projects are concerned with a whole range of issues from the conservation of environment, nature, historic monuments and sites to the protection of regional languages and traditional customs – briefly, with the safe-guarding of all elements basic for cultural landscapes. This demands a holistic thematic approach. Besides the conservation of already existing structures in cultural landscapes an important basic goal is the involvement of the local population in the development of their environment. The BHU supports activities in this field as a provider of ideas, project partner and mediator between different groups.

The "Deutsche Sektion des europäischen Verbandes für den ländlichen Raum e. V." (German Section of the European Association the rural areas e. V.) of ECOVAST was founded in 1988 and in April 2008 celebrating its 20-year anniversary.

Modern Preservation directs his gaze to the past and also on the future. It is no longer enough to explore the cultural heritage and to preserve it. The incredibly fast deformations of natural habitats and permanent transformation of all areas of life increase the importants of regional heritage management. They linked their rich store of historical knowledge with the discussion of current issues and the direction of social development. A contribution to a sustainable, resource and socially just world is a central concern of the regional heritage management.

Since it's foundation in 1991, the Hessische Vereinigung für Naturschutz und Landschaftspflege e.V. (HVNL) forms a platform for conservationists either, self-employed or employees of public/ private institutions and organisations. The members of the registered organisation work for planning offices and companies, for national or communal environment and nature conservation agencies, in the field of landscape management and preservation, regional development, agriculture and forestry, training insitutions, universities or as employees of nature conservation agencies, also for those working on a voluntary base.

The "Rhenish Society for Conservation and Landscape Protection" was founded in 1906 at the invitation of the President of the Upper Rhine province. At the inaugural meeting took the Governor, representatives of senior management, the Rhenish nobility, big business, the churches and prominent representatives of the arts and science.

CIVILSCAPE is open to all non-governmental organisations (NGO) which dedicate their work to landscape protection, management and planning, according to the “European Landscape Convention” (Florence, October 20th 2000).
If you are interested, please send your request to the President or Secretary General. We will provide you further informations about this issue.
